Editing blog

Today in class we started the editing process. Editing is the process of cutting and making changes to your media .Most of the class is new to editing film. I have had some experience with editing before this class. However, it was on a different editing software. It is called adobe premiere pro. In this class, we are using pinnacle studios. This is hard to use, because our computers are very old. Since they are old, that also means they are very slow. Most of the people in our class only started their dumping. Dumping is another word for exporting, where you take your media from one place and put it in another. Some of the people in the class didn’t start, because they did not know how to use the software. Some also did not start because of the limited amount of computers. We have almost 60 people in the class, and not enough computers to go around. Some of the computers don’t even have working WiFi. I also mentioned before that they are very old and slow.

Our group did start the editing process. We started by importing our media from my flash drive, to pinnacle studios. We went through our clips, and saw which ones we were going to use. The other clips went into the trash. We did this so we would not get confused with clips that we did not need. We only had time to put the clips in order, and cut them so we would fit in the time. We still need to work on this.

Next class, we will work on putting music and sound effects. We plan on doing this by downloading them from the internet and importing them into pinnacle studios. We will drag the audio into the audio sequence. We will also put transitions. I am not sure if it is in pinnacle studios, but on premiere pro, there are transition presets that I have been playing around with a little bit. I also plan on adding video effects, like a smoke effect. This will really bring life to our commercial. It will also make our commercial look more professional.

Film blog

Today in class, we started filming. Filming is the process where people who want to make a film will get their media. This is done with cameras. We started the day by getting our cameras, SD card, tripod, and other camera equipment. We headed out of class and to our filming location, which was the senior patio. We chose this spot because of he natural lighting, and that it creates the scene that we were trying to make. After we got to our location, we didn’t waste any time and got strait to making the scene. We had brought outfits and props to make the scene come to life.

We filmed for about 50 minutes. It actually went very smoothly, with us getting all of the shots we wanted. We did run into some difficulty throughout the filming process. We had to take many shots of the same scene, because of controllable and uncontrollable factors. All in all, we finished filming on time, got back to class and started to do our dumping. It took awhile for us to find an SD card reader. This is what we needed to use in order to dump. We put our SD card in the reader, and plugged it into the computer. The SD card had a USB plug in so it was easy plugging it into the computer.

The dumping process was simple and easy.  Dumping is the simple word for bringing your media from one place to another. In this case, our media went from the SD card to the computer. I also made sure to put it on a flash drive in case we lost the one that is on the computer. I also started editing a little bit in another class using a software called adobe premiere pro. I imported all of the media from my flash drive to the computer. I only had time to just put some of the clips in order.Next class, we plan on finishing the editing process.we will be using a software called pinnacle studio. I hope that using two different softwares will not affect it in any way. We will be putting the rest of the clips in order. We will also be putting transitions. If we have time, we will add text. We will also add sound effects and music.

Storyboarding blog

Today we learned about story boarding, what it is used for, and how to story board. Story boarding is a technique used by all film makers. They are used to plan out a film by drawing out your ideas into boxes. These boxes show what 6 seconds of the movie will be. For example, if you want a 30 second  film, you would do 5 drawings of the story. The drawings consist of what you want to be as your film, as well as dialogue. These are typically colored. We learned about them because we have started a new project. Our project will consist of us creating a commercial. My group has chosen to do a Wendy's commercial. Our storyboard will include our ideas of what we will film and say.

Our storyboard shows what we are planning to film and what we will say, like I said before. October 24, 2019 will be the day that we will film our commercial. We will try to match what our storyboard shows and says. After we are done filming, we will compile and edit, during the editing process.

Story boarding is used for many films. We were introduced to story boarding by watching a short film on how the developers of the movie 'toy story' created their film. it showed all of the story boards they drew, and what part of the film they represented. We will replicate this exact same thing with our Wendy's commercial.

Editing Blog

Today, our class saw many new materials and technology that we are going to use in our Aice Media projects. There is a tripod, which is used to get stable camera shots. The camera is what you use to get your footage. The sd card is a memory tool that is put into the camera to save your footage. The camera comes equipped with a charger and a case. The camera is simple to use. The tripod setup is a little tricky however. These are the tools we are going to use to film. Once we are done with the filming process, we will start our editing.

Today in class, we learned how to get footage from your camera to your computer where you can start the editing process. The first thing you need to do is to get your footage from your camera. Once you have that, you will take out the sd card from the camera and put it in the computer. Now everything from the camera is on the computer. You need to make a folder with all of your media. This helps with organization. That is the process of dumping.

After you have dumped all of your media, it is time to start editing. For this particular class, we will be using an editing software called pinnacle studios. This software is simple to use, but laggy. To start the editing process, you will open pinnacle studios, and create a new document. You will click the import media button, and select the media you want to use. After you import media, you can start the editing and assembly process of your video.

There are many other components you can add to your video, including sound effects, transitions, and slow motion. These will make your video really stick out. These all can be done in the editing bar in pinnacle studios.

Planning Blog

Our commercial is going to be on Wendy's new legendary spicy nuggets. Today we are making a blog about our planning stage in our commercial where we will list out the props, costumes, schedule and our backup plan, as well as explain why we chose to do those ideas. The props will bring life to the scene we are trying to set. The costumes will also help set the scene. Making sure our schedule is organized imperative to our project, so all of our group members know when we are brainstorming, filming, and editing. The background plan will be used as a last resort if any of our group members are absent.

Props -
  • chicken nugget container - to give to boring man
  • hot sauce - to be used by boring man and still be bored
  • gross food - to be eaten by boring man
  • lunch plate - used by boring man
  • chair - for the boring man to sit in
  • table - to be eaten on
Costumes-
  • Regular school-wear- to portray a sense of blandness
  • cool wear - when the cool dude with the spicy nuggets walks in
  • other cool wear - when the bland guy bites into a nugget
Schedule
  • October 10th/day one - brainstorming
  • October 14th/day two - film
  • October 16th/day three - editing
Location
  • inner cafeteria (if not available - use outside table)
back up plan
  • we only have two main characters and one extra, so we can leave out the extra and just have one boring man.
  • if the cafeteria is not open, we can just use the outside tables or any other table.

Commercial COnventions

Many commercials use the same tactics and styles to sell their product. We are going to write a Wendy's commercial. We have an idea to do an advertisement about the new Wendy's spicy chicken nuggets because it is the hottest and most hip chicken nugget on the market. We feel very strongly for this new nugget and it made us cry tears of joy when it came back into our lives. Collectively, our group loves Wendy’s chicken nuggets and are excited about the prospect of making a fake commercial.

We will advertise many things in our commercial, such as Wendy’s baconator and their fantastic 4 for 5 deal where you get a burger, fries, a drink and chicken nuggets for only five dollars. But the main focus of the commercial is the delicious spicy chicken nuggets. The commercial will have a hot theme to further prove that Wendy’s spicy chicken nuggets are not to be messed with. We will probably throw the spice onto them in slow motion with rock music on the background. It’s gonna be great.

Some will say that McDonald’s is better. But we will say something along the lines of “not like those other chicken nuggets” or “a kick you won’t get anywhere else!” To go against our main competitor in the spicy chicken buissness, Popeyes, we will show a box of their color (orange) getting smashed by our bigger, better red box of nuggets.

Introductory blog

My name is Dylan Felt. I am currently taking Aice Media studies for my 5th period. I have two teachers for this class, and they have both been great. This class has been fun, and going well. I have a couple of friends in my class that I plan on doing future projects with. The workload is not much. We just started doing blogs, which we are going to send to Cambridge later in the year. I am looking forward to this class, and the projects we are going to do later.

I go to Fort Lauderdale High school. I am in the 10th grade, and an on the swim team. My favorite class at school is comm tech 2. My least favorite class is European history. Like I said before, I am on the high school swim team. I decided to join because I am also a swimmer outside of school on a club team.

We just had a swim meet for high school swimming this past weekend at the Plantation swim pool. It was a great experience, where we got to see and race other schools. I did not do great myself, but our boys team managed to get 2nd overall, which is a great achievement. I am continuing to train hard, and get ready for regionals and states.
